SYNAPSE-SHOTS 2007-5
A POX ON BOTH THEIR HOUSES

• Screw ‘em all! The Demos are playing “Charlie Brown” to Dubya’s and the Neocons’ “Lucy.” Although you know it’s going to happen again, every time they go to kick the Mid-East football, Bush and the boys snatch it away, and true to the script, they land square on their asses. The Senate passed a 76-22, non-binding resolution urging the president to designate the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization. How might we react if they decided to apply a similar outlaw appellation to our globe-operative Special Forces?

• If there is any wonder why the pachyderm party is seen as a bastion of bigotry, consider that its major presidential candidates have dissed TV debate venues targeted for Hispanic and African American audiences. What used to be Abraham Lincoln’s party conversely flipped when Ronald Reagan’s “Southern Strategy” enticed the Cotton Belters with his sub rosa anti-minority messages.

• In the meantime, Dubya’s off and running with his new, best-distraction, Myanmar (formerly Burma)—about which he allows (hopes?) that Americans are concerned. (Er, is not one quagmire at a time quite enough?) Don’t blame him; his fickleness is always incited when democracy calls in an unpronounceable part of the world—especially when there exists the essence of petrol.
