Response from Gerald Hill
I fully agree with Curtis Long. I checked out his site and found echoes of my own thoughts, which I share here. First, who the hell is Jesse to dictate who's black and who's not? I've always hated his accent and attitude, which would've made for a lousy presidental image had he been elected back then. Sharpton embarrasses me with his wannabe James Brown hair and streetwise image in press conferences. As for "acting black," does that mean spouting rap, acting and dressing like a gangbanger, being a gangbanger robbing 7-Elevens and killing your mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers, and just being generally disrespectful, delinquent and poor? Was Martin Luther King, Jr. "acting white"? If he'd lived, what would he say about today's black youth and their bling-bling, hip-hop and droopy pants? And what about the writers and publishers of such black mags as Jet and Ebony??

Speaking as a black horseman who loves country music, if we had all truly ghettoized ourselves, there would've been no Charley Pride (or his protege, Neal McCoy) ... or any black legal secretaries, doctors, lawyers, dentists, accountants, executives, elected officials and so on.
How stupid Jesse's argument! Obama will go farther than Jesse ever will, giving black youth a new milestone to reach for. Jesse knows this, and is just jealous, as are many streetwise blacks who watch those blacks who speak and write King's English thus go farther than they.
