SYNAPSE-SHOTS 2009-67
(This is a tribute to José Rosa, CEO of RosArt Multimedia, Inc., upon the occasion of his birthday.)

ODE to PEPI

So often he came
To the count of ten,
But bounced up off the floor.
With no one to blame,
Like the best of men,
His lumps he staunchly bore.

Big Apple's the fault--
Where his fire was lit
To scrutinize the world
He started to vault,
With a mind well fit;
He thought he'd give it a twirl.

The world's not a chump,
Though its turn is slow.
And, yes, it will punch back.
So, into a slump
Quite soon did he go,
Having slipped off the track.

The tropics he tried,
But the palm trees there
Knew less than winter snow.
The net was thrown wide,
But the catch was spare.
Why? -- He did not know.

Boy, what a big change
California was --
Colorful, pallet wide!
With such a broad range
And weather, one does
Not need a place to hide.

His fancies took flight;
There was room to soar --
Space, now, to win or lose.
The sun ever bright,
Time stretched more and more --
Time not to sing the blues.

He still has brawn
And he still fights fair.
He never takes a dive.
The bout is still on.
He still hangs in there --
Groggy, but still alive!
