SYNAPSE-SHOTS 2009-79
OF JUDAS and ASSORTED VERMIN

Among one hundred senators,
All sworn to do our bidding,
One fits best among janitors –
Made queasy by that fitting..

This misplace solon vacillates
Twixt “rat” and “snake,” for starters.
His erstwhile friends he clearly hates
And now shamelessly barters.

A party favorite, he once ran
As V-P – It was ugly!
He became the forgotten man,
A burden he bore smugly.

But, in the race to keep his seat,
His party left him hanging.
In the midst of the campaign heat,
Alone, he went door-banging.

Sent back to congress, non-aligned,
The pill was hard to swallow.
Left with an ego quite maligned,
In self-doubt did he wallolw.

Former colleagues, noting his plight,
Decided to embrace him.
There wish was to avoid a fight,
And never to disgrace him.

His chairmanship, and all, retained,
He had regained his stature.
With former status thus reclaimed.
New powers did he capture.

He played the side that suited him –
Morality unmentioned –
His probity switch kept on “dim,”
His good angel now pensioned.

But then his cruelest “jeu de guerre;”
The campaign yields contenders.
Brutus made his selection clear –
He struck down his defenders.

His fawning in the other camp
Was odd and interposing:
Marlene Dietrich as a vamp;
Just “show” and snide thumb-nosing.

The post-election blues set in;
Surely, he would be dealt with.
The craven traitor he had been –
The others he had knelt with.

The gallows his colleagues had build
Was tested and stood ready.
There was no doubt as to his guild;
The evidence was heady.

A fair leader, just elected,
Stood by the guilty scoundrel.
Loosing his basic instincts.
Exposing a vile hounds’ hell.

“Insurance” was his red alert,
His masters’ voices calling:
“Get on it; we want someone hurt –
“And have that damned bill falling!”

Just as the leader’s “tour de force”
Comes closest to fruition,
Up, jumps this thing of sulphur-source –
Of hellish disposition!

So, there they are, in death-grip locked,
Two-thirds of U.S. power,
Held at bay by a banty cock,
Beset with visage sour.

This lesson may, in future time –
Be helpful to our nation:
“Avoid base creatures and their slime,
“And promote vaccination!”
