SYNAPSE-SHOTS 2010-38

JAMES the THIRD

AMONG the LEADING HERD

The “herd,” in this case, is the sluggish alternate energy movement, which includes both industry and government. While government is tied down with politics, industry, with GE leading the pack, keeps chugging along at home and abroad.

My nephew James W. Richardson III, is a part of that GE team. Recently, Jim was given a career advancement in connection with his efforts in wind and solar energy. His responsibilities take him across our continent and away to several others.

“My smart-ass nephew,” was my frustrated appellation for Jim that resulted from our dueling emails during his college days. A native of South Carolina, Jim always has been a brilliant student. He kept with ROTC throughout high school and graduation from Benedict College in Columbia.

Jim went directly  into the Army. Before you could bat an eye, he found himself a captain and sitting in Kuwait, prepared to help lead crazy George’s legions on to the latest battle of Babylon. Destiny stepped in, and before the berms were breached, an aggravated leg injury required he be returned stateside.

After testing the field in other directions, Jim had the great sense to apply for and be accepted into a forwared-thinking GE program designed for young management prospects in the field of alternate energy. Jim and his wife Jean pulled up stakes and went North, to Upstate New York. His promotion is an indication of the sagacity of their decision.

Jim has a younger brother, Jason, who also is an example to their generation. Jason, too, is a Benedict honors graduate. Since then, he steadily has been growing in the bank management field. Additionally, he is about to complete a graduate program at the University of South Carolina.

The parents of these two dynamos are James W. Richardson, Jr. and Dr. Malqueen Richardson. Jim père was an educator and then retired as an all-schools administrator with the South Carolina Board of Education. Dr. Malqueen Richardson is a long-time educator and administrator at Benedict College. She enjoyed the rare privilege of, while similarly gowned, presenting each of her sons with their diploma upon graduation.

On behalf of the other Richardsons, the Lyons and Long families, I wish Jim continued success in a field that bodes well for GE and him.
