VOICE -- & VIEWPOINT

Journalist Barbara Smith of the San Diego Voice & Viewpoint newspaper, accompanied by her photographer husband, Sunday evening covered the Community Actors Theatre’s (CAT) Open-Mic Night.

From the manner in which I publicize my own participation in the program which is open to all comers, Ms. Smith perhaps got the impression that the night was mine alone. However, once there, she was immediately disabused of that notion. Correctly  informed, Ms. Smith proceeded to cover the event in its proper light.

Thus apprised, Ms. Smith did interview Mrs. Hamilton and me. Jennie reviewed with her CAT’s long and progressive history. I, in turn, responded to curiosity as to the motivation of my writing, as well as questions concerning my Jefferson colloquy -- that was read by Jennie Hamilton -- and the introduction of Tommy Dodson’s recording of the song, “Journey,” which I wrote for my play, “Strange Land / Strange Brand.”

The other presentations consisted of dramatic readings, recitations, and vocal and instrumental music.

Ms. Smith wound up her coverage with photos of Mrs. Hamilton and all the participants. The results will appear in a future edition of the San Diego Voice & Viewpoint.
