A LETTER

from the

”STRANGE LAND”

In the recent staging of my narrative play, “Strange Land / Strange Brand,” I attempted to channel the probable thoughts of intelligent, sentient peoples brought to North America to be subjugated, exploited and marginalized for the better part of four centuries.

Re-printed here -- without further verification of authenticity -- is a posting from the Web page, http://www.racialicious.com/2012/02/01/the-ghost-writer-jourdon-anderson-and-his-letter-from-t ...

THIS HUMBLE BLOG

WISHES ALL A GROG

In this one hundredth and final post of the year is a reminder that the below, narrative play, Strange Land / Strange Brand begins its three-day run on January 6, which coincidentally, is All Kings Day.

El día de los tres reyes magos is celebrated in Latin America, and presumably elsewhere. Mimicking the mission of the Magi, it is the day when, in this season, gifts are made to the children of those countries.

RYKARDO

RETURNS HOME IN TRIUMPH!

Rykardo Hernández, a native of Tijuana, Mexico – a longtime protégé of mine since he was a struggling, teenage singer – has been starring in the musical, “Mentiras” (Lies) in Mexico City for most of the past three years. On November 4, the show will come to Tijuana for a one-night-, two-performance-stand. The venue will be the Grand Hotel Tijuana, a twin-tower, luxury lodging, unique in its grandeur in the State of Baja California.

CAT’s MEOW

VOICE -- & VIEWPOINT

Journalist Barbara Smith of the San Diego Voice & Viewpoint newspaper, accompanied by her photographer husband, Sunday evening covered the Community Actors Theatre’s (CAT) Open-Mic Night.

From the manner in which I publicize my own participation in the program which is open to all comers, Ms. Smith perhaps got the impression that the night was mine alone. However, once there, she was immediately disabused of that notion. Correct ...

Another Pietà

Editor’s Note : An election to fill the seat vacated by former Representative Anthony Weiner (D-NY) will be held next month. Bob Turner is the Republican challenger to the presumed “safe” Democratic seat. The following news item could have an effect on this race, which appears to be closer than expected.

Remembering the PBS story upon which the article is based, one is amazed by the seeming fleetness of time.

JOHN PROCTOR:

SOUND-MAN SUPERB!

In a lunch-table discussion at the San Diego Braille Institute, I happened to mention that I was seeking a business contributor for a badly needed sound system at the San Diego Community Actors Theater (CAT). John Proctor spoke up and volunteered to install the equipment, if we were able to obtain it. I discovered that John is a very talented home-entertainment installer who specializes in sound requirements.

After failing to engage the business world, ...

STRANGE LAND STRANGE BRAND

A narrative play with music

By Curtis W. Long

Four narrators recount the almost four centuries of the African imprint upon the body and psyche of North America from early 17 th century to the present day. The narrators, channel the disinterred voices of those who created – and the present voices of those who continue to create – that imprint.

ANOTHER YOKE FOR THE NATIVE FOLK

( Editor’s Note : For those of us who bought the crap about the Lewis and Clark Expedition being launched by President Thomas Jefferson for the purpose of documenting the flora and fauna of the newly acquired Louisiana Territory , here is a ball-buster that attests to yet another fable-ization of our school books.

The major fauna Jefferson wanted documented were the Indians! In his oh-so-gentle language, secretly he wanted to locate the various Indian t ...
